Angela Saini’s love for science and other STEM topics started young, studying for and gaining a Masters in Engineering from Oxford University and a second Masters from the Department of War Studies at King’s College London in Science and Security. She would go on to work for ITN and BBC as a reporter, where she worked on the flagship national News at Ten programme.

She is well-loved on both sides of the pond, and in 2012, she was named a Knight Science Journalism Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Angela has published several critically acclaimed books, including:

Geek Nation: How Indian Science is Taking Over the World (2011) – A bestseller in India, this book introduces the reader to engineers, inventors and scientists from India and how what they’re doing impacts the rest of the world.

Inferior: How Science Got Women Wrong (2017) – Translated into 11 languages, this book explores the history of how science has understood, or misunderstood, the differences between the sexes, and how this has impacted women’s lives in a conscious and unconscious way. It went on to win the Physics World Book of the Year and was a runner-up in the GoodReads Choice Awards.

Superior: The Return of Race Science (2019) – Angela’s third book was named one of the top ten books of the year by Nature magazine. It looks into the concept of race and racism through interviews with geneticists, historians, anthropologists and scientists from across the globe.

The Patriarchs: How Men Came to Rule (2023) – Named a ‘book to read in 2023’ by the Financial Times, Angela looks into the roots of gendered oppression and patriarchy and how your experiences depend on where you live.

Angela’s expertise has seen her become the recipient of several accolades, including the Association of British Science Writers’ Award in 2012 for an article she wrote about the misuse of statistics in courtrooms and trials; the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s Kavli Science Journalism Gold Award in 2015 for a piece on human language and birdsong; was named European Science Journalist of the Year by the Euroscience Foundation in 2009, and one of the most respected journalists in the UK in 2018.

She has offered her expertise to a number of podcasts and radio shows, including Challenging Pseudoscience at the Royal Institution and BBC Radio 4’s documentary The Misinformation Virus. She has also appeared on a Christmas special of University Challenge in 2018/19, and presented the BBC Four documentary, Eugenics: Science’s Greatest Scandal (2019) alongside disability rights activist Adam Pearson.
