Originally a facial therapist, Jo Malone CBE discovered her love for fragrance while working from her discreet skin care clinic, which she had set up in her London home. She realized her instinctual talent for creating scented products by hand in her kitchen, and word of her exceptional creations quickly spread. Unable to keep up with demand, Jo launched her first brand, Jo Malone London, which gained cult status worldwide. In 1999, she sold the business to Estée Lauder Companies and remained Creative Director until 2006. Jo is no longer associated with Jo Malone London or its products.
In 2008, Jo was honoured with an MBE for her services to the beauty industry.
In the following years, her passion for fragrance remained strong. Inspired by her new love for cooking, Jo began experimenting with food, flavours, and colours in her kitchen. Realizing her instincts guided her back to fragrance creation, she wondered, “Could I do it again?” With her entrepreneurial spirit, a head full of ideas, and the desire to build another business, Jo decided to follow her instincts and return to the beauty industry.
In November 2011, five years after leaving Jo Malone London, Jo launched her new brand, Jo Loves, to global anticipation. In 2013, she opened the first Jo Loves store on Elizabeth Street in Belgravia, where she had started her career as a florist at 16. Jo Loves embodies her passion for creating unique fragrances, pioneering new products, and providing engaging experiences. Jo Loves now offers candles, personal care and lifestyle fragrances, and diffusers.
Jo was awarded a CBE in the June 2018 Queen’s Birthday Honours list for her contributions to the British economy and the GREAT British Campaign, which promotes British creativity and industry internationally.
In 2016, Jo published her award-winning autobiography, My Story. Renowned globally for her eponymous fragrance brand and her new venture, Jo Loves, Jo Malone shares her remarkable journey from humble beginnings to business success. Raised in government-subsidized housing in Kent in the early 1960s, Jo left school as a teenager to care for her mother following a stroke. Despite struggling in school due to dyslexia, Jo had a unique ability to perceive scents. Her at-home beauty business and handmade products gained popularity, leading to the creation of an international brand. After selling her company and giving birth to her son, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent treatment in New York, marking the beginning of a new chapter in her life.
