Gabrielle Omar appeared on the eighth series of the popular business show The Apprentice (2012), making it to week 10 out of 12 before being fired by Sir Alan Sugar.
Since then, she has become a confident and famous face on our TV screens, including as a regular designer on DIY SIS and DIY SOS: The Big Build (2019-2021). In 2021, she became the presenter of HGTV’s Quick Little Builds, a programme which helps homeowners make the most of small spaces with a limited budget. The series involved Gabrielle assisting people in transforming things from horse boxes to tree houses to home offices and double-decker buses.
Gabrielle graduated from the University of Westminster in 2003 with an undergraduate degree in Architecture before completing a Masters in Computer Imagery in Architecture, followed by a Part II RIBA and Part III RIBA Diploma in Architecture, making her a registered chartered engineer.
In 2013, she launched ‘Tea With An Architect’, an initiative to help increase communication between architects and the community in an approachable way. The campaign, which lasted a year, saw over 6,000 architects approach over 400 locations around the UK to discuss what was expected of them and to help promote smaller firms.
Throughout her TV and campaigning career, she has worked on ‘Spot This Space’, her personal architecture and interior design company.
She has partnered with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) to help overhaul the image of architects and to promote diversity in the industry, including for women. She is also passionate about promoting versatility as an architect to respect sustainability, climate change and economic crises.
With her ever-growing reputation in the field, Gabrielle has not forgotten her core interests, including championing women in architecture. She has provided keynote speeches at events including the Architects Journal Women in Architecture at the NLA, Grand Designs Live, the 100% Design expo where she participated in ‘Architect Question Time’, at the ‘Inspire YOUth’ event aiming to inspire young adults aged 16-24 into the construction and design industry, appeared on a panel with the winners of the inaugural Women in Architecture Awards and worked alongside Mosaic in their new Female Entrepreneurs Network venture.
