Maddie Moate’s love of performing started at a young age where she attended the Jill Stew School of Dance and Dramascope performance group, before studying theatre, film and television at Bristol University.

Between 2012-2013, she made three films for Samsung which attracted over 1.5 million views, plus a series of campaign films for Intel, Argos and Sony.

Her online presence and love of wildlife lead her to present BBC Earth’s YouTube channel ‘Earth Unplugged’. Here, she investigates the conundrums and quirks of our planet and in doing so, has swam with prehistoric fish, been covered in leeches and hatched alligators. Maddie has fronted the channel since 2012; it now has over one million subscribers and over 200 million views. The channel won a Panda award from Wildscreen in 2014 for Best New Media. The series gained the attention of BBC America, who compiled the highlights to create a one-off programme called It’s a Mad Mad Maddie World! (2015).

Maddie has been the main technology expert on BBC 5 Live Saturday Edition (1987-) since 2014 and she frequently features on Good Morning Britain (2014-) and BBC Breakfast (2000-).

Maddie has presented the CBeebies hit series Maddie’s Do You Know? since 2016, which sees her explore the workings of everyday objects by asking how they are made or work, all made possible using special animations. The programme reaches an average of 328,000 people per episode, and it won Mattie the best presenter BAFTA at the 2017 BAFTA Children’s Awards. Due to the roaring success of the programme, Maddie was asked to host a spin-off series in 2020 called Maddie, The Zoo and You (2020-). She has also started in the CBeebies Christmas Show since 2017 and the CBeebies Proms in 2019.

She has also appeared on Springwatch Wild Academy (2018) for the BBC, Cloud Challenge (2017) for CNBC, This Morning (1988-) on ITV and her own personal documentary videos The Real Me (Perioral Dermatitis) (2015) and Maddie Moate– Hydromel Ointment 3 in 1 Regime (2015) about her skin conditions.

At the start of the UK’s first COVID19 lockdown in 2020, Maddie teamed up with her fiancé Greg Foot to create Let’s Go Live, a YouTube live stream that focussed on a variety of themes including dinosaur week, brilliant bodies and theme parks. The series included suggestions for hands-on activities that could easily be done during the lockdown period. In 2020 she also became a presenter on Fully Charged (2010-), a YouTube channel exploring batter-electric vehicles and renewable energy. She also started a podcast, Maddie’s Sound Explorers, which won her the Best Family Podcast in the British Podcast Awards 2021.

Aside from digital content and TV presenting, Maddie also brings her love of science to the stage, writing, producing and hosting shows. Her love of performing never went away and she made her pantomime debut in 2021/2022 appearing in De Montfort Hall’s production of Sleeping Beauty.

Maddie Moate Charitable Work

Maddie Moate is a patron of the Youth STEM Awards (YSA) scheme and am ambassador for Eureka: The National Children’s Museum.

In 2021, Maddie released her debut book Stuff: Eco-Stories of Everyday Stuff. The book is a collection of stories about everyday things and how they are made, used, reused and recycling. Maddie hopes that the book will ignite a passion for sustainability in both children and adults, and inspire us to think about the impact everyday objects are having to the planet. The book ended up in Amazon’s top 100 children’s books for recycling, top 6- in self-sufficiency and green living, and top 25 in children’s books on how things work.

Maddie Moate is an experienced live host, moderate and keynote speaker. Whether hosting events for technology clients, delivering talks to young women in science, or leading Facebook Lives for the world premiere of Blue Planet 2 (2017), she is comfortable with an array of audiences and environments. Maddie also enjoys participating in panels and is often invited to share her thoughts on YouTube and online educational content.
