The UK’s Best Awareness Days Inspirational Speakers

At Great British Speakers, we’re here to help make your event successful. Using our awareness days calendar, you can easily plan ahead to ensure you secure the best speaker for your day.  Our corporate events calendar is also here to inspire you on ways to help motivate your audience and/or employees this year.

Some of the biggest events on the Awareness Days calendar include International Women’s Day (March 8th) and Black History Month (October). Both have become pivotal for raising awareness of EDI concerns within society and the workplace.

We also focus on the importance of Mental Health, with World Mental Health Day (10th October) and Mental Health Awareness Week (12th – 18th May 2025), as well as International Men’s Day (November 19th), which is a powerful reminder for men to take care of their own health and mental well-being.

The calendar below includes all these and many more occasions. However, we know there are many more important awareness days than those we’ve listed, so we will continue to update our events calendar as often as possible to provide you with the latest event news and the best topical speakers on the circuit.

What is Blue Monday?

The term Blue Monday is a compilation term for what we’ve come to know as those post-Christmas blues… back to a normal work routine,  cold, dark days and the costs of unpaid Christmas debts and winter credit card bills,  all which make this time of year feel a tad more gloomy.

The term was coined by a psychologist, Cliff Arnall, back in 2004, when  Sky Travel, asked him for a “scientific formula” for the January blues. From his research, Arnell calculated that the most depressing day of the year could be discovered using the following formula;

Where weather=W, debt=d, time since Christmas=T, time since failing our new year’s resolutions=Q, low motivational levels=M and the feeling of a need to take action=Na. ‘D’ is not defined in the release, nor are units.

Using his calculation, he determined that the most depressing day of the year was, in fact, the 3rd Monday of January.

 – so next year, it will fall on the 20th of January 2025.

Despite the term initially being coined to encourage people to book holidays – the term seems to have stuck, as is now widely used in to describe those seasonal blues and even more severe mental health and mood disorders, such as SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder).

However, in some circumstances, when these moods don’t lift, they can spiral into more long-term mental health conditions.

So while the date may have been coined for a quick holiday PR stunt, the awareness it’s raised over the years has been fundamental in raising the wider concerns of mental health issues globally.
