Hailing from the mountainous countryside of Pembrokeshire, West Wales Mirain Iwerydd was raised in a close-knit, Welsh-speaking community in Crymych, located right in the heart of North Pembrokeshire, with a mixed heritage of Welsh, Jamaican and Indian. As her primary school years were coming to an end Mirain began to struggle with her mental health and eating disorders, which would continue throughout her secondary school career. She is now an enthusiastic advocate for better understanding and supporting mental health in young people.

Mirain had never intended to become a presenter, and fell into the media world completely by accident aged 18, during the first COVID lockdown of 2020. Having gotten a bit bored of banana bread, she decided to turn an old pair of curtains into a pair of dungarees with a 1980s Singer sewing machine she’d bought on Facebook. Having won a writing competition, the local paper ran a feature on Mirain and mentioned her new-found passion for sewing. This was picked up on by a TV producer who asked her to make a video of her progress. The video was uploaded and from thereon a love a of talking, communicating, broadcasting – and sewing – was born, launching her presenting career while still at university. Mirain studied Welsh at the University of Aberystwyth and graduated with a high 2:1 in 2023.

Miriam first children’s TV series Ser Steilio (Styling Stars) (S4C) won a BAFTA Cymru award for Best Children’s Programme at the Welsh BAFTAs in 2024.

In 2025, she started hosting St David’s Day Concert: Calan in Concert on BBC Two Wales/BBC Four, her first English-language presentation. This was followed by her first foray into daytime programming as an expert on Shift the Thrift on BBC One. Using her sewing knowledge and upcycling skills, Mirain helps contributors find charity shop bargains in the hope of selling for a profit.

On radio, Mirain is a champion of new and emerging Welsh artists and hosts the Welsh language new music show every Wednesday night on BBC Radio Cymru. This is a safe haven for new and emerging Welsh talents to showcase their crafts and put their voices and sound out to the nation, all in the capable hands of Mirain. On Sunday mornings Mirain hosts a Sunday morning breakfast show on BBC Radio Cymru 2, easing her listeners into their morning with good vibes and music. Mirain was nominated for best radio presenter at The Celtic Media Awards in 2024.

Mirain continues her passion for sewing unique handmade items. She is a lover of bold, bright prints, and has a fantastic eye for second hand fashion, buying clothes from second-hand sites and charity shops, creating new looks with pre-loved items of clothing every single day.
