2014 was a standout year for Jo Pavey, who finally claimed a long-awaited senior Gold medal at the 2014 European Championships in the 10,000m, only 10 days after claiming Bronze in the Commonwealth Games 5,000m.
All the more impressive given that Jo had only given birth to her second child 11 months earlier.
These achievements didn’t go unnoticed, and Jo won a host of accolades at the end of the season, the most notable finishing 3rd in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2014. She was also named by the ‘Mirror Pride of Sports awards’ as the most inspirational performance of 2014.
Jo has represented Britain at every Olympics since Sydney 2000, and was selected to compete in the 2016 Rio Olympics which was her 5th Games and where unbelievably she was 42!
Jo is the only female athlete to have competed in the 1,500m 5,000m and 10,000m at both the Olympics and World Championships.
Jo has had to deal with many setbacks throughout her lengthy career, including missing 2 seasons with stress fractures and 2 seasons to have her children.
