Jay Morton is a renowned military mountain guide and expedition leader, adventurer, author speaker and TV presenter.

Jay Morton had a distinguished 14-year military career, with a decade of service in the UK Special Forces (SAS) and four years with the Parachute Regiment. He went on four tours in Afghanistan, three in Iraq, and two covert deployments.

After leaving the military in 2018, Jay shot to fame on the Channel 4 show SAS: Who Dares Wins. Jay quickly became a popular member of the cast and has since amassed nearly a quarter of a million followers on Instagram.

Since leaving the military Jay has been involved in launching outdoor clothing brand Thurdark, leading expeditions to some of the world’s highest mountains, as well as becoming a brand ambassador for Tag Heuer, Ducati, Boss, Bremont, Cunard, Patron, and Harley Davidson.

Operating within the Special Forces demanded rapid decision-making in hostile and ever-changing environments. Jay Morton | Background

Jay was born and raised in Preston, Lancashire and his adventurous nature was ever present as a child, when he loved to be outdoors.

Leaving school with minimal grades, Jay always aspired to join the military and in 2004 his dream came to fruition, joining the PARAs. Four years later, Jay went through the brutal process of Special Forces selection, which he passed with his first attempt.

He went on to have a 10 year career with the UK Special Forces. In that time Jay trained as a high-level shooter and operator, was deployed on multiple Tier 1 operations to carry out intelligence-led strikes, parachuting to a military standard, jumping into unmarked drop zones with multiple jumps into hostile territory.

Jay also Trained as a Military Mountain Guide and is able to carry out tactical and non-tactical expeditions, both military and civilian-led, in all seasons, in mountainous and extreme cold-weather terrain. Has led a number successful expeditions to the summits of some of the highest mountains in the world, including two summits of Mount Everest.

He excelled in the elite Mountain Troop, mastering extreme cold, mountainous, and urban terrains. Jay underwent rigorous training with German military mountain guides, becoming a certified military guide and subject matter expert.

His skills extended to patrol medic duties, high altitude operational freefall parachuting (HALO & HAHO), and surveillance operations.

Jay continues to pursue his passion for adventure and mountains, leading expeditions for Elite Exped, associated with friend Nimal Purja.

In 2021 he published his book Soldier: Respect is Earned, a masterclass in mindset, strategy and excellence. Drawing on his extraordinary personal experience, it provides in-depth, comprehensive lessons and practical takeaways.
