Gina Battye is a trailblazer in the realm of psychological safety in the workplace, spearheading transformative change through her role as the Founder and CEO of The Psychological Safety Institute. Her career trajectory has established her as a captivating keynote speaker, acclaimed author of The Authentic Organization: How to Create a Psychologically Safe Workplace, and advocate for cultivating psychologically safe work environments.
Gina’s professional journey began unconventionally as she fearlessly navigated the challenges of working with some of the most dangerous criminals in Northern England; she was even stalked by a dangerous man in 2004.
However, it was in her next role in a further education college where she experienced first-hand the detrimental effects of workplace homophobia – from her manager, of all people. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, she navigated the pressures and challenges that being LGBTQ+ in the workplace can bring. When she reported the bullying to HR, they told her not to progress with the complaint as it would highlight her sexual orientation to her colleagues. Her manager would go on to be promoted.
It was these two experiences in particular that ignited her commitment to cultivating psychologically safe workplaces, leading her to develop the world-renowned ‘5 Pillars of Psychological Safety’. Through these 5 Pillars, and the Hierarchy of Psychological Safety, Gina has revolutionised the way organisations approach the sense of belonging, inclusion and culture. Her innovating methods have been embraced by national and international corporations, earning her recognition as a visionary leader in the field.
At the Psychological Safety Institute, Gina and her team are dedicated to challenging and transforming workplace attitudes and outdated cultures, advocating for psychological safety to be integrated into global workplace legislation.
The Institute’s methodologies, including the 5 Pillars and the cutting-edge diagnostic tool, Lux, are widely recognised for their ability to cultivate thriving, inclusive workplace. Their collaboration with the University of Cambridge Judge Business School provides access to an elite team of social scientists that offer insights and analysis to diagnose workplace issues, as well as targeted interventions to cultivate an environment where teams not only survive, but thrive.
Gina’s influence extends globally through widespread media coverage and prominent speaking engagements. Her impact is felt by millions, as she empowers individuals to embrace their authentic selves and actively contribute to the creation of safer, inclusive workplaces.
With a proven track record of sold-out programs, a global audience of over 10 million, and a Speaker of the Year award, Gina is a force to be reckoned with. Combining world-class training with a heavy dose of hindsight, she is at the forefront of change, inspiring and elevating the standards of worldwide workplaces.
Gina’s expertise has seen her placed as a finalist at the European Diversity Awards, the Inclusive Awards, and the National Diversity Awards.

Gina was great. We loved her enthusiasm, passion and energy. Very collaborative process. Felt she really listened to what we were trying to achieve and do. She obviously does a lot of public speaking, which sometimes might come a bit repetitive for her, but we never got that impression, she was there on the day with full gusto and engagement. It was really enjoyable working with her, you automatically feel happier in her company. She was organised, clear and pragmatic. If opportunity arises, we certainly would welcome working with Gina again!

Gina is a force to be reckoned with in her field. Her work is still referenced by senior leaders and managers as the go-to guide, towards creating a more inclusive and psychologically safe workplace for employees. The 2 e-learning modules she created on psychological safety and LGBTQ + support in the workplace, together with the time she spent with our executive team running sessions on inclusive leadership have been invaluable. We continue to use her modules as part of OSTC’s onboarding program. Her passion, delivery and work ethic is admirable and inspiring.

A colleague from Lloyd’s Banking Group and I approached Gina with a brief for a session and what we would like to cover. Gina recently hosted a session for us around being your authentic self in the workplace. Our colleagues who attended left feeling inspired & more engaged with the business & Gina kindly offered colleagues a follow-up session free! The feedback we had from colleagues has been amazing & we are hoping to do more work with Gina in the future. Any business serious about Diversity & Inclusion would aim to create a culture where people can perform & be their personal best. This was a great session on the journey to achieving that.
