Born in 1991 in Carmarthen, Wales, Alex George pursued his passion for medicine by studying at the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, graduating in 2015. He began his medical career working in Emergency Medicine at University Hospital Lewisham in London, where he gained extensive experience treating a wide range of acute medical conditions.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, he documented his frontline duties in his local hospital, taking to social media to highlight the negative effects of lockdown on young people struggling with their mental health.
One of Alex’s biggest goals is to change the perception around mental health, comparing it to physical health. He believes that, just as physical health is taken seriously and steps are made to improve it, mental health is often thought about in a negative manner.
Alex George’s widespread popularity has led to numerous appearances on high-profile television programmes, including Lorraine (2018–2021), Celebrity MasterChef, This Morning, Loose Women, The One Show and Sky News. He also served as the Health Editor for Good Morning Britain from 2018 to 2020, using his platform to raise awareness of key health issues.
In 2021, Alex took on a new challenge as a documentary producer for BBC One and Children in Need. His documentary, Dr Alex: Our Young Mental Health Crisis, shone a light on the struggles faced by young people across the UK dealing with mental health challenges.
Through personal stories and real-life experiences, he explored the obstacles they encounter and highlighted the impact of community projects – some funded by Children in Need – that are working to improve young people’s wellbeing.
As well as his work for the UK government, Alex has worked alongside a number of charities such as Mind, YoungMinds and the Anna Freud Centre to ensure mental health is included in the national curriculum alongside Maths, English and Science.
His dedication to mental health advocacy was further recognised when he was awarded an honorary degree by the University of Exeter in July 2024 for his campaigns promoting psychological support for young people.
In 2021, he released his first book Live Well Every Day. It became the Sunday Times number 1 bestseller and is full of advice to keep your body and your mind healthy. The book covers the very modern health challenges of today’s world – anxiety; social pressure and mental health; immune system health; how to be fit, flexible and eat well in a sedentary world; sexual health; gut health and other issues that present challenges to staying both physically and mentally healthy.
Alex launched a podcast, The Waiting Room, in which he celebrated heroes in healthcare by telling their personal stories. Topics touched upon have included the impact lockdown had on pollution levels, pregnancy and childbirth, intensive care, emergency medicine, knife crime, war trauma, cosmetic dentistry and fitness, amongst many others.
More recently he has launched and hosts the Stompcast podcast – a call to step outside, move your body, and nurture your mind.
Each week, Dr Alex George takes a walk with a special guest, delving into insightful and inspiring conversations about mental and physical wellbeing. As they wander through nature, you’ll hear the soothing sounds of birdsong, crunching leaves, and the rhythmic pace of their steps – reminding us all of the simple power of getting outdoors.
From industry experts to everyday voices with extraordinary stories, Stompcast explores what keeps people happy, balanced, and thriving.
He has a rapidly growing social media presence, with over 1 million followers on TikTok, 123,000 on YouTube and a whopping 2.2 million on Instagram, in which he shares easy-to-digest information on physical and mental wellbeing, with the aim of reaching millennials and those uncomfortable with asking for help.
Alex has established himself as a keynote speaker, as well as taking part in fireside chats and Q&A sessions.
His keynote topics include:

Men’s Mental Health – Everybody’s Business
Men account for 75% of all suicides in the UK, yet outdated ideas – like being told to “man up,” “real men don’t talk about their feelings,” or that “stress is just part of success” – still prevent many from seeking help. We all have a son, brother, dad, or uncle – and too often, we assume it won’t affect us, until it does. This silence comes at a cost, impacting not just individuals but families, workplaces, and communities
This talk challenges harmful stereotypes and offers practical, science-backed strategies to boost well-being and manage stress. Dr Alex George share simple tools, my own journey, and the lessons that led me to co-found Mettle – because when we prioritise mental fitness, everyone benefits.

We were eager to work with Dr Alex after developing our Emotional Pillar within Consumer Experience for L’Oréal Professional Products Division. Alex is a great figure, doing some amazing things to raise awareness and amplify the topic of mental health and he did not disappoint. He inspired the delegates and got people thinking about the important topic. He was on time for every meeting and even when we made a last-minute date and time change he accepted and adapted without any complaints. Alex was inspiring, professional and relatable throughout and we will definitely be looking to work with him again.

10/10 for an amazing fireside chat with Dr Alex who went above and beyond. The conversation flowed and how very open and humble he was.
