SUMMARY:International Day of People with Disabilities speakers at GREAT BRITISH SPEAKERS
DESCRIPTION:International Day of People with Disabilities Speakers\nWhy Acknowledge ‘International Day of People With Disabilities’?\nThe International Day of People with Disabilities aims to help others understand disability and to help improve awareness\, rights and the well-being of people with disabilities. \nOver the years\, themes have included art and culture\, independent living\, accessibility\, technology\, rights and laws\, employment\, education\, sustainability\, inclusion\, power and leadership. \nOne of the key themes across the years is that of invisible disabilities such as diabetes\, neurological injuries\, chronic fatigue\, autism and hearing loss. It’s important that we open up a conversation about disabilities that are not immediately clear in the hope that we can reduce the stigma around these ‘invisible’ disabilities. \nPeople with disabilities are one of the most excluded groups in our society\, and the global COVID-19 pandemic only exacerbated pre-existing inequalities such as lack of healthcare access\, employment barriers and community participation. \nFacts! \n\nOver 15% of the world’s population live with some form of disability\nIn the UK\, 1 in 5 people have a disability\n83% of disabilities are acquired during working age\nIn the 2020/21 financial year\, roughly 14.6 million people in the UK had a disability\n5% of disabled people aged 16-64 were in employment compared to 81% of non-disabled people\n\nThe important thing to remember is that disability equality is a responsibility for all and not just for those living with a disability. \n  \nFind an Inspirational International Day of People With Disabilities Speaker\nAt Great British Speakers\, we work alongside some of the country’s best physical and mental health and disability speakers. They all have personal and/or professional reasons as to why they believe disability\, and invisible disability is an important topic to discuss. \nWith more and more businesses wanting to adapt and be more inclusive to their disabled employees – whether that’s a disabled toilet\, wheelchair-friendly access or being allowed guide dogs – our speakers can provide you with a better understanding and better opportunities for yourself and your disabled staff. \nFeatured Speaker – Claire Lomas | International Day of People With Disabilities\nIn 2017\, Claire Lomas was in a freak horse-riding accident that left her paraplegic. After years of physiotherapy\, her story made national headlines when she completed the 2012 London Marathon over 17 days whilst wearing a ReWalk robotic suit. \nShe has since become one of the most inspirational sports and disability personalities and has raised in excess of £500\,000 for charities. \nThrough her talks\, Claire demonstrates how you can overcome anything thrown at you and how to find your determination to succeed. She also speaks openly and honestly about the challenges she faced immediately after the accident and in the long term.  Listen to our Podcast episode with Claire Lomas HERE. \n \n  \nInternational Day of People With Disabilities | Similar Speakers \n\nMotivational Disability Speakers for Equality and Inclusion\n5 Steps to Build Confidence in Your Team Members\nOvercoming Adversity with Motivational Speaker Clive Branson\n\n“A Chat With Claire Lomas…” our International Day of People With Disabilities Speakers\n\nWinston Ben Clements | Disability\, Equality and Inclusion Speaker\nDave Walsh | Multiple Sclerosis and Disability Speaker\nClive Branson Overcoming Adversity with Motivational Speaker Clive Branson\n\n  \nLinks to Resources | International Day of People With Disabilities \n\nUnited Nations | International Day of People With Disabilities\nNot Every Disability is Visible\nDisability and Employment\nDisability at Work\nInternational Day of People With Disabilities | Workplaces\nUnderstanding and Supporting Staff with a Hidden Disability\nSupporting Disabled Staff in the Workplace\nHow to Promote Diversity and Inclusion\n\n  \nHire a motivational ‘International Day of People With Disabilities’ Speaker\nWe are fortunate enough to work with a number of inspirational disabled speakers including Steve Brown\, Amar Latif\, Michael McGrath\, Liz Johnson and Stef Reid\, to name but a few. \nTo book an International Day of People With Disabilities speaker\, contact Great British Speakers’ Jane Farnham and Steve Denison at +44 1753 439 289 or email bookings@greatbritishtalent.com
